I am currently compiling a list of videos snd DVDs for a particular fan group. The DVD Lady has some hard-to-find DVDs, but now I'm wondering if I should avoid mentioning her at all if there are other options. Can you elaborate on your experience, please?
Thank you in advance! Having just watched A QUESTION OF SILENCE I enjoyed you comments. Having been a young women in the 70s, in the midst of the " revolution" I understand the popularity of the film , with a certain audience. However, even though as a much older woman now, I have not outgrown the desire to " kill for the crap they dish out", I have learned through the years to override it. Lol. I agree this film is definitely a dark comedy. Understandable in theory, not so cool in practice.Debhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04945977801523778398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146286857215408059.post-71879597776528459942020-09-11T20:26:34.153-07:002020-09-11T20:26:34.153-07:00And, agree 132%, Ikiru and the Apu trilogy are won...And, agree 132%, Ikiru and the Apu trilogy are wonderful....KenLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18156262482355147377noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146286857215408059.post-76962710862162843772020-09-11T20:19:38.850-07:002020-09-11T20:19:38.850-07:00Wonderful! I look forward to your updated review.

...no pressure, of course....

I have not seen any of the other movies you reviewed on this page. I have seen a few Bela Tarr films...kinda-sorta...I think I may have fallen asleep partway through.

(And now a Bela Tarr fan will stop by and criticize both of us!)

Anyways. Always look forward to seeing your reviews, don't always agree with what you write, but always find it worth reading.KenLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18156262482355147377noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6146286857215408059.post-54032340319444569872020-09-11T16:11:32.559-07:002020-09-11T16:11:32.559-07:00Thanks for your thoughtful comments, Ken. Thanks as always for your reviews....Hey there Rosy. Thanks as always for your reviews.

I came to this page because I will be re-watching Celine and Julie Go Boating again soon, and I thought I'd look at some reviews. It's one of my all-time favorite films.

So I was a bit disappointed to find that you dismissed it as nutty and confusing. In truth, it seems to me that you may have approached this last batch of movies as something akin to homework. And who needs that....

If you consider though that C and J are just two free-spirited girls who like to *make their own fun*, then the whole film makes a lot more sense. And indeed, this film does one particular thing better than any other film I've seen: it realistically depicts the creative process. The girls combine found objects, a haunting locale from their (Julie's) past, and flashes of inspiration. They act out a boudoir drama of their own invention, adding and removing bits, including a damsel in distress at the end (perhaps a niece they're babysitting), and after they've explored all the possibilities that occur to them, they put lampshades on the players' heads to turn it into a farce, before calling it a day.

And then, in the final scene, they're getting ready to embark on another adventure of their own creation, but with the initial roles reversed.

...yes, it's long...too long. A common failing in Rivette films. But, it might just be worth giving another chance.

Anyways and FWIW....

Ken KenLhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18156262482355147377noreply@blogger.com
